Measuring Your Kitchen

Below is an example of how to draw your existing kitchen floor plan.  Use these instructions and the sample grid below to map out your existing kitchen on the Planning Grid attached.

  1. Draw an outline of your kitchen.

  2. Measure all walls from corner to corner and record the length of each wall on the grid.

  3. Refer to the information we've provided about Measuring Windows and Doors.  Then measure your kitchen's windows, doors, and doorways and record the results on the Planning Guide.

  4. Measure for ceiling height - (measure in two or three places to check for inconsistencies).  Mark on the grid.

  5. Refer to the information we've provided about soffits.  If there are any existing soffits, show them on the Planning Grid.

  6. Mark all existing vents, gas lines, plumbing lines, sink and electrical outlets on the grid, including their height from the floor.

  7. Label any adjacent rooms on the Planning Grid.

  8. Once you have completed this information, you are ready to begin planning your Dream Kitchen.  Bring the Planning Grid to your next appointment, or fax the Grid to your design specialist.
